"L'Enfant": An original wood engraving signed in the lower right with the official stamp of the Derain estate. A masterful work, full of grace and beauty, L'Enfant was released by the widow of Andre Derain after his death. It has been pulled in two colors- red and black- on heavy Rives paper. Derain's work, for the most part, may be described as controlled. His preference for earth colors makes his art warm and bright. This is particularly true in his lithographs, etchings, and woodcuts- and especially in L'Enfant where flowing arabesques create a dynamic view of the three figures.
